The philosophy of treating symptoms instead of of dealing with root causes has caused a lot more harm than good (see the Soul Reaping timer for example). The philosophy of over-nerfing things so that they'll never ever cause balance issues again because no one will ever use them again is a terrible idea. Most of all, the philosophy of totally ignoring the PvE impact of skill changes (despite the fact that PvE players are the ones paying a-net's bills) is a huge mistake, and probably the largest reason that I am strongly inclined not to touch GW2 no matter how good its buzz may be.
There are at least 4 people responsible for skill changes.
James, Izzy, Morello, and Chaplan.
James is Izzy's boss and he makes the final decision, but final decisions about what should be changed are done when there is consensus from the group.
There are more people involved, but they are the technical aspect, such as coding. Izzy spends a lot of time playing and in obs mode, and is the most well known by the community, but he's not the law. From what I've read in the past about the process Izzy has to jump through a lot of hoops and red tape to change something.

1. PvE power creep: heroes, consumables, PvE skills.
2. PvP balance: skills, new character classes.
3. Economy: greens and inscriptions.

Sounds like a lot when I phrase it that way, but in each case there is a delicate balance that I think was lost, despite some potentially good ideas. Elements in #1 can be abused and led to lower challenge level and fewer groups. #2 speaks for itself given the state of PvP. #3 hurt what there was of an economy.

My personal list though is somewhat different:

1. Storage issues. Dont even get me started.
2. Too few character customization options and inability to modify after creation.
3. Need a different incentive to continue play than grind titles. I loved some titles, others though...

NPC TRADER ROLLBACK!!!!

1) All runes, rare materials, and dyes were 100g for 6+ hours! Anet eventually had to ROLL BACK THE ENTIRE GAME to avoid an economy disaster.

2) The ability to find Superior Absorption runes easier. I found 16 today, they actually used to have some value and now they will never have value ever again.

3) Factions, and everything that has to do with it.

Here are a couple screenshots of mistakes in the past, I unfortunately don't have a picture of my inventory when I had over 20 stacks of ecto and tons of superior vigors during the trader rollback anymore:

(unlimited balth cap)

After completing ring of fire:

There have been plenty of other minor mistakes that they never should have made, such as losing our 36,000 favor minutes.

Creation of the new favor system.

Creation of the ritualist class, assassin class, paragon class, and dervish class.

Too many skills, many of which will never be used no matter what happens other than the pve enemy that used them.

Henchmen that are completely worthless in every single campaign EXCEPT eotn. Eotn henchmen were actually built quite well and are usable, they manage their energy well and use skills that a real player would use. There is no excuse for the AI considering you can deck out a hero and he plays fantastic.

How about the creation of green weapons? This completely ruined the market for working to get good weapons. I remember paying 100k for a Gold holy rod that had +5 energy and 20%, now you can get 20/20's from collectors or free greens. What's the point of even having an economy in weapons if you can get perfect ones so easily?

Ability to only use 3 heroes at once, you should be able to fill your entire party with them if you want.

I could go on forever and I could also make a list 3 times this size on all the things I LIKE about Guild Wars, so meh.

1. Not enough sorrow's furnace-esque updates
2. Allowing too many gimmicks to survive, which ruins ha (probably more the fault of the lamers)
3. No auction house

1. Infrequent, poor skill balances that only rarely reflect that anyone at Anet possesses even the slightest bit of knowledge of the state of the (PvP) game.
2. See 1.
3. See 1.

1. Unnecessary swinging of the nerfbat
2. Swinging the nerfbat after it was already swung unneccessarily.
3. Swinging it one more time for shits and giggles.

I love the game but damn some of the nerfs just piss me off. Specially when someoen else got to take advantage of it before it was nerfed lol.

1. Hero Battles, then trying to hype them up with the ladder, then the ATs, etc. The entire format is stupid and degenerate, and never will get better without a huge AI upgrade for Heroes.

2. No Auction House. When you do add it to GW2 (how in the hell could you NOT?), back-update GW1 to include it as well. Selling is such a pain I dont' even try anymore.

3. Skill balancing, or the lack thereof. There are plenty of in-the-trenches informed opinions thrown around in the Gladiator's Arena. And based on the past SEVERAL skill balances, they are ignored in full. on the most grinding problems. That's not right, pay attention to your community.

1. Worst trade system in an MMO, IMO
2. Godawful BMP marketing
3. Introducing grind-based titles that affect the performance of certain skills

Dunno..the trading system in EVE is far from enjoyable. No mapping there, it's click on destination then go watch a film.

Thumbs down

I forgot to mention a few things in my earlier post that need to be highlighted after I read some of the previous posts:

1) URSAN BLESSING RUINED PVE PERIOD.

I was able to do every single challenging thing in this game with the 3 necro bars and Ursan. Vanquishing, HM dungeons, HM quests, HM missions in all 3 campaigns, even elite areas. When something was JUST a bit too challenging all you needed was Essence of Celerity and it was game over for the monsters. Look at DoA, what groups do you see? Uh, ursans and monks. Nothing else, nobody plays anything else! Ursans and monks, that's it! If that isn't an overpowered skill then I don't know what is.

2) Consumables of every type possible. ESPECIALLY the new craftable ones in EOTN. Does the game need to be easier? I love Essence of Celerity because it allows me to roll through anything in the game without a single thought. I could sit back and watch the heroes and hench do everything while I did nothing with Celerity, even in Hard Mode.

3) The DUPE that still has NOT been fixed and is still rampant! How do you think single players have 1750 ARMBRACES OF TRUTH, not from farming.

1. Too instanced, and not enough persistence world.
2. Auction house.
3. Titles that had no effect/reward and encouraged grinding.

1. Taking way too long to nerf or buff skills and builds.
2. Not taking any real action to improve economy
3. 15%^50, it removed the need for any other inscriptions for non-magic damage dealers.

1# people who complain about PvE being to easy and then saying they want more then 3 heros. Ahh why do u think u can only have 3??

2# people complaining that Anet stuffed up here, or didnt fix this, if you dont like it stop playing there game!

As for the dupe it was a glitch that was exploited, its not Anet who is to blame for that, its the people who did it. Name one game that is air tight.

3# people who dont understand that with 1000 or so skills in the game things may need to b changed every now and then. How can u Complain Ursan blessing is to powerful then say you dont like the skill "nurfs"

To all of you Ursan haters, If you don't like it, you may aswell stop using other PvE skills, Ursan is a PvE skill, you hate it just because its popular.
